Fresh River Healthcare and iCare Health Network Join Community Effort at 2026 HDSA Team Hope Walk

May 4, 2026
EAST WINDSOR, CT (May 4, 2026) – Fresh River Healthcare and iCare Health Network were proud to stand alongside families, advocates, and community members at the 2026 Team Hope Walk, hosted by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America Connecticut Chapter at Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth.

The annual walk is part of a nationwide initiative that brings communities together to raise awareness and funds for individuals and families affected by Huntington’s Disease (HD)—a rare, inherited condition that impacts movement, cognition, and behavior. Events like the Team Hope Walk serve as both a fundraising effort and a powerful show of solidarity for those navigating the challenges of the disease.

According to local coverage by WTNH News 8, the 2026 walk in Killingworth drew participants from across the region, all united by a shared mission: to increase awareness and support research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

For the team from Fresh River and iCare, participation in the walk reflects a deeper, everyday commitment. At Fresh River Healthcare, caregivers and clinicians work closely with individuals living with Huntington’s Disease, witnessing both the clinical complexity of the condition and the remarkable resilience of those affected.

“May is Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month, bringing attention to a condition that profoundly impacts movement, thinking, and behavior,” said Renee Cole of iCare Health Network, who attended the event. “At Fresh River, we see the impact every day—but what shines through is the resilience, kindness, and courage of our residents and their families.”

That perspective was echoed throughout the event, where personal stories and shared experiences underscored the importance of community support. The walk itself is often described by participants as more than a fundraiser—it is a gathering that fosters connection, reduces stigma, and reminds families they are not alone.

“Supporting the annual HDSA Connecticut Chapter Hope Walk and standing with families and advocates across Connecticut is a reminder that even a small community can be truly mighty,” Cole added.

Fresh River Healthcare’s involvement also highlights its role as a specialized provider for individuals living with Huntington’s Disease in Connecticut. By combining clinical expertise with community engagement, the organization continues to support both the medical and emotional needs of residents and families affected by HD.

As awareness efforts continue throughout the month and beyond, events like the Team Hope Walk reinforce a shared commitment: advancing care, supporting families, and building a stronger, more connected Huntington’s Disease community.
