A Special Visit During Vermont’s “Capital for a Day” in Bennington

BENNINGTON, VT (December 6, 2025) – On December 5, 2025, the Governor of Vermont and members of his administration brought the state’s “Capital for a Day” initiative to Bennington. This program allows the Governor and his cabinet to spend dedicated time in each county, visiting local organizations, connecting with residents, and experiencing the work happening on the ground.

We were honored that the group chose our center as their final stop of the day. Rather than a formal meeting, the visit was centered on connection. The Governor’s team caroled throughout the building, moving from unit to unit and spending time in resident dining and recreation areas to maximize interaction. To mark the occasion, each unit hosted its own hot chocolate bar, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that residents and staff alike enjoyed.

The delegation included DAIL Commissioner Bowen, Vermont Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Rick Hildebrant, Chief Prevention Officer Monica Hutt, AHS Secretary Jenney Samuelson, State Medicaid Director Jill Mazza Olson, DAIL Deputy Commissioner Angela Smith-Dieng, DOC Commissioner John Murad, DMH Deputy Commissioner Samantha Sweet, Vermont Public Safety Commissioner Jennifer Morrison, and Rebecca Silbernagel from the Commissioner’s Office.

Several members of the Governor’s cabinet were in attendance, underscoring the importance of the day. Dr. Hildebrant, newly appointed to his role, shared that he was familiar with our center through referrals and placements from the Rutland region, but expressed appreciation for seeing firsthand the environment, mission, and level of engagement within the building.

The visit was more than ceremonial. It was a clear demonstration of state-level support for the work being done here every day. Moments like this reinforce the value of partnership, visibility, and shared commitment to serving Vermont’s most vulnerable populations with dignity and purpose.
