As of March 2018, Fresh River Healthcare is now providing a specialized and cutting edge Parkinson’s Disease therapy known as the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Therapy (LSVT). This approach aims to address the “internal” aspects of Parkinson’s disease symptoms, leading to significant functional improvements. LSVT improves the voice and speech of individuals with Parkinson’s disease by treating the physical pathology associated with a disordered voice.
Fresh River announced the creation of a Parkinson’s Disease Support Group to be held at the center in East Windsor. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. The meeting is held on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm. The meeting is supported by the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA) with structure provided by a local Program Director for the organization. November 29, 2017Fresh River Healthcare in East Windsor, CT began utilizing a medication named AUSTEDO (Deutetrabenazine) in the treatment of patients with Huntington’s Disease; the first nursing home in Connecticut, and one of an estimated 15 in the country, to do so. Huntington’s disease (HD) is a neurological, hereditary disease with physical, emotional, behavioral and cognitive effects that are disruptive to all parts of everyday activities.

Fresh River Healthcare Rated as One of the Best Nursing Homes by US News and World Report
November 1, 2017NEWS ALERT - Fresh River Healthcare in East Windsor, CT was named a 2017-18 Best Nursing Home by US News and World Report. According to U.S. News officials, each facility was assigned a rating ranging from 1.0 to 5.0, using their own analysis of data posted by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Fresh River earned a rating of 5. Only 15% of the facilities that U.S. News rated achieved “Top Performing” status by earning a rating of at least 4.5.
